Hybrid Vortex Reducing Fin

Hull Outfittings

Hybrid Vortex Reducing Fin

A hull appendage that breaks up hull-generated wake vortices ahead of the propeller to recover propulsive efficiency.

WhatsApp

Overview

A hybrid vortex-reducing fin is a fixed appendage mounted on the hull ahead of the propeller, shaped to break up the swirling wake that the hull itself generates as water flows aft toward the propeller disc. That swirl represents lost energy and uneven inflow to the propeller. Straightening it before the blades meet it is an energy-saving retrofit fitted during a drydocking, not a part that wears and needs routine replacement.
