Submerged Arc Welding Machine

Welding Equipment

Submerged Arc Welding Machine

An automatic welding machine that runs the submerged arc process, burying the arc under a bed of granular flux.

WhatsApp

Overview

A submerged arc welding machine automatically feeds solid wire and granular flux together, burying the arc completely beneath the flux bed as it runs, which shields the weld pool so thoroughly that the process produces almost no visible arc flash, smoke or spatter. That buried arc allows very high current and deep penetration on thick plate at a steady, mechanised travel speed, making it the standard process for the long straight or gently curved welds in hull plating. Unused flux from around the completed weld is typically recovered and reused by a flux-recovery unit rather than discarded, which keeps the process economical given how much flux a long structural seam consumes.
