Overview
A flatbed transporter is a low, open-deck yard vehicle built to carry loads too heavy, wide or awkward for a forklift, steel plate, fabricated sections, machinery, from stockyard to fabrication shop to the vessel itself. Its low loading height is the point: getting the load bed close to ground level keeps the centre of gravity low and makes loading with a crane or gantry straightforward, which matters more than speed for the short, repeated moves a shipyard actually runs. Many yard transporters use multi-wheel steering to turn within the tight aisles a fabrication shop or stockyard actually has, rather than the wide turning circle a road truck needs.
