Aerial Work Platform Vehicle

A self-propelled platform that lifts personnel and tools to height for hull, tank and structural work.

Overview

An aerial work platform is a self-propelled boom or scissor lift that raises a work platform to height, giving fabricators and inspectors a stable, movable base for welding, coating, grinding or survey work on a hull or structure too tall to reach from staging or a ladder. In a shipyard it substitutes for fixed scaffolding on jobs where the work area moves along the hull faster than scaffolding could be rebuilt, most surface preparation, coating and structural repair work on a vessel in drydock. Outriggers or a wide wheelbase keep the platform stable at full extension, and the unit is chosen against both the working height a job needs and the ground conditions of the yard it will operate on.
