Hull Outfittings

Window

A fixed or opening marine window, framed and gasketed for the wind and spray loads of an exterior bulkhead.

Overview

A marine window is framed to carry loads a building window never sees: wind pressure against a moving structure, vibration, and repeated wetting from spray. That is why the frame is gasketed and through-bolted rather than simply puttied into an opening. Toughened or laminated safety glass is standard for the pane itself, since a cracked window on an exterior bulkhead at sea is not a maintenance item that can wait, it is a breach in the weather envelope of the accommodation.
