Door

A weathertight or watertight steel door for exterior openings and compartment boundaries aboard a vessel.

Overview

A marine door is built to a different standard than a building door: a gasketed, dogged frame clamps the leaf against the coaming under uniform pressure, so it holds a seal against green water on deck or, on a watertight boundary, against flooding between compartments. Which grade a given opening needs depends on where it sits, weathertight is enough for most exterior accommodation doors, watertight is required at compartment boundaries below the waterline. That classification is a naval-architecture decision made per opening, not a property of the door itself.
