Overview
Submerged arc welding wire is a solid, uncoated wire fed automatically into a bed of granular flux that covers the arc completely as it runs, which is where the process gets its name. The buried arc produces very little spatter or visible light and allows deep, consistent penetration on thick material. It is a production-welding consumable rather than a hand-held one, matched to machines and trolleys running long, straight or gently curved seams, exactly the geometry of hull plating and structural joints.
