Overview

Common-area furniture aboard a vessel, mess room seating, tables in a recreation space, sees heavier daily use than accommodation furniture and is built accordingly, in materials that tolerate repeated cleaning with the harsher agents used aboard a working vessel. Chairs and benches are frequently bolted to the deck outright rather than merely weighted, since a loose chair in a mess room during heavy weather is a genuine injury risk. Style and layout follow the specific space's dimensions, confirmed at the time of order. Materials are also chosen for ease of cleaning, since a mess room or recreation space is cleaned far more often than an equivalent room ashore and a finish that cannot take repeated scrubbing wears out quickly.
